About KindyWords
Our mission
To make writing so much fun that every child keeps doing it — and grows into a confident writer along the way. Not through grades or comparison, but through delight: a warm cheer for every attempt, and the habit that follows.
The short version
KindyWords is an AI writing mentor for children aged 4–9: real pencil, real paper, a photo from the parent’s own device, and a warm voice reply with their page back covered in stars — plus at most one or two gentle things to try. It’s an AI, and we always say so.
Where it came from
It started with a page on a fridge door — “becos”, “lik”, and all — and a drawing signed by Mikyla. The very first KindyWords cover, made before a single line of code, already said the whole mission: every kid deserves a writing mentor. You can see both on our home page.
Built by a parent in Australia who wanted exactly one thing: an endlessly patient cheer for every writing attempt, that never — ever — teaches a child the wrong thing with confidence.
The rule everything else follows
If we can’t read it clearly, we ask — we never guess-correct. A confident correction on a misread would teach a child the wrong thing confidently; that’s the one failure we refuse to ship. It’s engineered in and measured on every release, not written in a style guide.
Where we are right now
KindyWords is open today, and free to start. We completed our independent child-privacy and legal review before a single real family’s data was ever accepted — for a children’s product, we chose to be slow and trustworthy rather than fast and sorry, and we’re glad we did. The mentor is now live for families across eleven countries, and more come later, each with its own privacy review first.
